Job Description:
Interviews are held on Tuesdays from 8:00am to 11:00am at United HomeCare Services, 8400 NW 33rd Street, Suite 400, Miami, FL 33122. Drug testing and background screening is required for all applicants.
The Home Health Aide performs personal care and other supportive services to the patient under the supervision of the Clinical Team Manager.
1. Be knowledgeable of the agency’s mission, strategic direction, and programs offered.
2. Display a positive attitude and clear customer service focus at all times.
3. View their work as part of the larger agency’s activities and work in close cooperation with co-workers and fellow employees.
4. Maintain confidentiality of all work related activities and be loyal to management.
5. Continuously develop their skills and knowledge by reading and training sessions.
The duties and responsibilities of a Home Health Aide shall include but not be limited to:
1. Performs routine general care of the patient according to the Physician’s Plan of Treatment.
2. May provide supplementary and supportive home nursing services, including supervision in the tasks of daily living to one or more patients in their homes in order to enable them to remain at home.
3. Performs routine housekeeping tasks as related to a safe and comfortable environment for the patient.
4. Teach routine household skills to family members to aide with the continuity of patient care.
5. Gives simple emotional and psychological support to the patient and family. Promotes mental alertness to the patient through conversation and other activities.
6. Takes and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration) at each visit or as indicated. Home health aide may take blood pressures if she/he has been properly trained in this procedure.
7. Maintains simple records; i.e., intake and output, TPRs, personal care, and assists with ADLS.
8. Plans, prepares, and serves simple meals. Assists patient with feeding and feeds patients unable to feed themselves.
9. Gives partial bath, sponge bath, shower or tub bath, and back rub as required.
10. Performs routine care of hair, may shampoo if necessary.
11. Gives care of the patient’s mouth and fingernails. Toenails and fingernails are not permitted to be cut.
12. Turns patient in bed, transfers patient from bed to chair, from chair to commode, chair to toilet or vice versa.
13. Changes bed linen on both an occupied and an unoccupied bed. May give and remove bedpan and urinal.
14. Encourages self-help and follow through with the use of special equipment. May perform special or simple rehabilitative procedures taught to the aide by the nurse and/or therapist upon physician’s orders for that particular case. Assists with ambulatory and transfer activities.
15. Recognizes and reports changes in patient’s condition to the Registered Nurse.
16. Assists the patient in cleaning, removing and replacing colostomy bags.
17. May reinforce dressings when visibly soiled or loose. Report findings immediately to the Clinical Team Manager.
18. Accompanies patient outside the house when permitted.
19. Informs the nurse promptly of any unexpected or unusual changes in the patient’s condition, behavior, environment, family situation, etc.
20. Provides for the patient’s privacy and confidentiality.
21. Documents all pertinent information appropriately.
22. Recognizes emergencies/knows emergency procedures.
23. Performs other duties as required.
24. Assist in Coordinating treatment for Agency’s clients and/or consumers. (HIPAA)
The Home Health Aide may not perform any duties or procedures which require the skill or education of a licensed nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS:
o Education: High School education or its equivalent. Completion of a 75 hour Certified Nursing Assistant course.
o Experience: Applicants should have at least one year of experience in providing personal care.
o Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to make meaningful observations and write simple reports. Ability to accept and constructively utilize supervision. Ability to recognize the needs of people and to maintain good relationships in dealing with them. Ability to carry out simple personal care services for the patient in the home.
o Physical: Adequate physical and mental health to carry out the duties as outlined in the job description.
o Communication: Ability to communicate information concerning a patient’s condition. Ability to converse with patients.
o Training: Must receive 12 in-service credit hours each calendar year, including CPR. Must meet all standards pursuant to 59A-8.0095 Personnel, F.A.C.
o Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) preferred.
